COMPANY EARNINGS RELEASES
> KMG Chemicals, Inc. announced financial results for the fiscal 2012 first quarter ended October 31, 2011. Net sales of Animal Health products rose to $1.8 million from $1.2 million in the prior year period, due primarily to eartag sales in international markets and off-season sales of Rabon products in the US. (Business Wire)
> ECO Animal Health Group plc reported results for the six months ended September 30, 2011. Revenue for the period totaled GBP 11.9 million ($18.6 million), a decline of 3% compared to the comparable period in the prior year. Profit from continuing operations rose to GBP 0.44 million ($0.69 million), an increase of 5% compared to the previous year. (RTTNews)

> Novartis announced that Deramaxx (deracoxib) is now approved by the FDA for the control of postoperative pain and inflammation associated with dental surgery in dogs. (company press release)
> Heska announced the intent to collaborate with Entegrion Inc., a company with core expertise in blood-related disorders. The parties will explore unique technologies in the areas of coagulation and blood cell-based therapeutics, for use in the veterinary market. (company press release)
> Freedom Health LLC announced the re-introduction of the improved SUCCEED Equine Fecal Blood Test (FBT). The new test is a two-part lateral flow immunoassay that provides veterinarians with a clearer view of digestive tract pathologies. (company press release)
> PDx BioTech announced the launch of OraStrip QuickCheck Canine, a detection and monitoring device for active periodontal disease in dogs for professional use only. OraStrip QuickCheck is a rapid, point-of-care device that can be used with or without sedation. (Veterinary Advantage)
> Sumitomo Chemical announced the opening of its new headquarters for the North American Animal Nutrition Division. The marketing and sales of Sumitomo’s synthetic methionine products for Canada, Mexico, and the US will be coordinated out of the new office in the Houston suburb of Kingwood, Texas. > EU Merck Animal Health announced the EU launch of Nobivac Myxo-RHD, the first single shot vaccine that protects rabbits for 12 months against both Myxomatosis and Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease (RHD). Available in single dose vials, the vaccine is aimed specifically at pet rabbits. (company press release)
> SOUTH AFRICA Lohmann Animal Health announced it has acquired its former distributor, Immuno-Vet Services CC in Johannesburg, South Africa. Immuno-Vet will keep its individual business profile, as will local company Lohmann Animal Health SA (Pty) Ltd. Financial terms were not disclosed. (WorldPoultry.net)

ANIMAL HEALTH NEWS
> US – GOVERNMENT REPORTS The National Agricultural Statistic Services (NASS) has reported that it is reinstating most of the data reports that it planned to cancel due to budget cuts. NASS had said it was canceling 10 reports, including the catfish and trout reports, annual sheep and goat report and July, or midyear, cattle inventory report. NASS said it will reinstate and retain those reports and six others that were canceled. (Feedstuffs)
> CARIBBEAN – VETERINARY SCHOOLS American University of Antigua’s (AUA) veterinary school, which opened its doors to its first class of veterinary students in January 2010, suspended all classes for 2012 and announced it would close the school at the end of the semester. AUA says little else about the school’s closure. (DVM360)

BRAKKE CONSULTING VIEWPOINT
The news this week continues to show signs that we’re at the end of another calendar year – not that much exciting news to report. What we have heard from the marketplace is that some firms are closing out the year in a positive fashion, while others are looking forward to better times in 2012. We hope your firm is one of those registering positive gains in 2011.
As we look forward to 2012 at Brakke Consulting, we see some exciting opportunities for the industry. In the coming weeks we will be announcing new studies and programs that we believe will have significant positive impacts on the industry at all management levels. As with other industries, the “times they are a-changing,” and if the animal health industry wants to stay ahead of the curve some structural and strategic changes are going to need to occur. Brakke Consulting plans to be on the forefront of some of these changes in the industry.
