Neogen’s first quarter revenues were $16.8 million, a 10% increase compared to the prior year. Neogen’s Animal Safety Division led the company’s first quarter revenue increase, with sales up 13% to $9.1 million in FY 2006. The quarter marked the 50th consecutive profitable quarter from operations for the company, and was the 54th of the past 59 quarters when Neogen reported revenue increases as compared with the previous year. Sales of the Webster Veterinary Supply unit increased approximately 9% in the first quarter of fiscal 2006 to $85 million on a comparable basis. Fourth-quarter earnings dropped 40%, primarily due to lower profits from its packaged meats. Net income fell to $101.9 million, from $169.3 million for the year-ago quarter. Sales for the quarter were $3.7 billion, down 4% versus last year; on a comparable basis, current quarter sales increased 4% after adjusting for the estimated benefit from an additional week in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2004. Fiscal 2005 sales were $14.6 billion, 3% above last year’s sales of $14.1 billion.
