EARNINGS NEWS RELEASES

  • The M. Smucker Co. announced results for the second quarter ended October 31, 2024, of its 2025 fiscal year. U.S. Retail Pet Foods sales were $445.4 million, a decline of 4% due in part to divested brands. Segment profit was $121.4 million, an increase of 25%. (seekingalpha)
  • Central Garden & Pet Company announced results for its fiscal year ended September 28, 2024. Net sales for the Pet segment were $1.83 billion, a year-over-year decrease of 2%. Pet organic net sales decreased 6%. (company press release)

  • Boehringer Ingelheim announced the launch of Vetmedin Solution, the first oral solution approved by the FDA for the management of congestive heart failure (CHF) in dogs due to myxomatous mitral valve disease (MMVD) or dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). The new formulation joins Boehringer’s Vetmedin Chewable Tablets. (prnewswire)
  • Granite Creek Capital Partners LLC announced it has made an investment supporting the management buyout of Global Animal Products (GAP), a manufacturer of feed additives for the beef, dairy and poultry markets. Financial terms were not disclosed. (com)
  • HUNGARY Ceva Animal Health announced the construction of a new  7,000 sq. m vaccine manufacturing facility in Hungary, expanding the capacity of Ceva Phylaxia. Ceva will use the plant to produce fermentation-based multicomponent inactivated vaccines for animals. (Feedstuffs)
  • AFRICA JBS SA announced plans to invest about $2.5 billion to build its first meatpacking facilities in Africa. The company signed a memorandum of understanding with the Nigerian government to build three poultry plants as well as two for beef and one for pork in five years. (Feedstuffs)

  • MEXICO – SCREWWORM The Chief Veterinary Officer of Mexico notified the USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) of a positive detection of New World screwworm (NWS) in Mexico. The NWS was found in a cow in the southern Mexico state of Chiapas, at an inspection checkpoint close to the border with Guatemala. APHIS is restricting the importation of animal commodities originating from or transiting Mexico effective immediately and pending further information from Mexican veterinary authorities on the size and scope of the infestation.   • US – ANIMAL SALES New York State is set to implement the Puppy Mill Pipeline Act on December 15, which will prohibit retail pet stores from selling dogs, cats, and rabbits. Stores may partner with nonprofit animal rescue organizations to showcase pets available for adoption.  (com)
  • UK – ANTIBIOTICS Sales in the United Kingdom of veterinary antibiotics for use in livestock and poultry, adjusted by animal population, were unchanged from 2022 to 2023 but were 59% lower than in 2014. Veterinary sales of highest priority critically important antibiotics, which includes fluoroquinolones, third-generation cephalosporins, and colistin, fell slightly from 2022 and were 84% lower than in 2014.
