Goodnight reunites with Brakke Consulting
David B. Goodnight, DVM, MBA, has rejoined Brakke Consulting, Inc. as a senior consultant after starting a new pet health insurance company and designing wellness-program software for veterinarians. “We are delighted to have an executive of Dr. Goodnight’s caliber reunite with Brakke,” said Ronald Brakke, president and CEO of Brakke Consulting, a leading management consulting firm serving companies in animal health and nutrition, pet care and veterinary services. “Dr. Goodnight’s vast experience as a veterinary practice owner, consultant and corporate executive gives him a unique perspective on our clients’ business issues.” Goodnight’s first stint with Brakke was from 1997 to 1999, following 19 years of veterinary practice. During that time, he helped establish the Practice Management Group, and conceived of and executed the 1998 Brakke Management and Behavior Study, a landmark survey on the financial business practices of companion animal veterinarians sponsored by Bayer Animal Health. He then joined Veterinary Pet Insurance as executive vice president of business development, managing sales, customer service and marketing. He returned to Brakke in 2004 for 18 months before joining Nestle Purina PetCare Co. to start a new pet insurance company. PurinaCare Pet Health Insurance was launched in 2008. New report profiles the US small animal pain management market
A new study from Brakke Consulting takes an in-depth look at pain management products for dogs and cats. ”The pain management market has been one of the fastest growing areas in animal health, with a variety of new active ingredients and novel formulations in the past 20 years,” said Lynn Fondon, senior consultant of Brakke Consulting. “Sales of small animal analgesics have increased 20-fold since the introduction of Rimadyl, the first of the new-generation NSAIDs, in 1996.” The study, Pain Management Products for Dogs and Cats, profiles the veterinary market for analgesics, both veterinary and human products, as well as nutritional supplements and therapeutic diets for joint support. The report includes an overview of pain management in veterinary medicine, leading product sales and pricing, and a discussion of new and developing products. The report also includes a survey of small animal veterinarians. “Our veterinary survey found that veterinarians are largely satisfied with the available products for dogs, but feel there is a need for safer analgesics for cats, particularly those that can be used long-term,” comments Dr. Fondon. The report – published annually by Brakke for the past decade – gathered information from a variety of sources, including published information, industry interviews and a survey of over 200 small animal veterinarians. New report profiles the veterinary drug compounding market
