COMPANY EARNINGS RELEASES
> Krka reported financial results for the first half of 2015. Animal health sales came to EUR 26 million ($29.3 million), a 15% increase compared to the first half of 2014. (Animal Pharm)
> Nexvet Biopharma announced financial results for its 2015 fiscal year, ended June 30th. The company reported a net loss attributable to common shareholders of $(11.9) million compared to $(6.7) million for the year ended June 30, 2014. For the years ended June 30, 2015 and 2014, other income comprised research and development incentive income of $3.5 million and $2.3 million, respectively, government grant income of $0.4 million and $1.3 million, respectively; and an exchange gain of $4.2 million and an exchange loss of $0.4 million respectively. > The FDA announced approval of Zoetis’ Lutalyse HighCon Injection (dinoprost tromethamine) for use in dairy and beef cows and heifers. (FDA)
> The FDA announced approval of Novartis’ (now Elanco) Onsior (robenacoxib) subcutaneous injection for control of postoperative pain in cats. (FDA)
> Greenies announced the launch of a veterinary-exclusive, reformulation of the popular Greenies chew. The new dental care product is also are infused with ingredients supporting cognitive, immune, metabolic and skin health. (Vet Advantage)
> Avivagen announced that its Vivamune Vital Health3 Chews are now available to pet retailers in the US. Until now, the products could only be ordered online. (Stockhouse.com)
> French animal health firm VitamFero announced it has signed an exclusive, worldwide agreement for its animal toxoplasmosis vaccine with Australian company Bioproperties. The live, attenuated vaccine will be transferred to Bioproperties, which will oversee manufacturing and the ongoing development of the product, and will manage the vaccine’s development up until drug registration and launch. The first market approval is expected to be an ovine toxoplasmosis vaccine. Financial terms were not disclosed. (Animal Pharm)
> Vet24seven announced it has launched PetCheck, a new in-home service for animal owners and their companions. Pet parents can now schedule a veterinarian consultation at their convenience for a $75 per pet fee. PetCheck includes a one-time home visit, comprehensive physical exam, nutrition evaluation, oral hygiene evaluation, household toxins evaluation and more. PetCheck is currently piloting in California. (Vet Advantage)
> UK AmerisourceBergen announced that MWI Veterinary Supply has acquired Vestwest Limited, a provider of buying group and ancillary services to member veterinary practice across the UK. Financial terms were not disclosed. (Businessleader.uk.com)
> JAPAN The Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (JMAFF) announced marketing approval for Zoetis’ Trocoxil (mavacoxib) Chewable for the relief of pain and inflammation associated with degenerative joint disease in dogs. Trocoxil is already marketed in Europe, where it was launched in 2009. (Animal Pharm)
> EU Premune and Innovet announced that they have entered into an exclusive licensing agreement for Redonyl Ultra, a nutritional supplement based on PEA-um (ultramicronized palmitoylethanolamide) to support healthy skin in dogs and cats. The license gives Premune exclusive marketing rights for Redonyl Ultra in major European markets outside of Italy, plus an option for introducing the product in North America at a later date. > AUSTRALIA/NEW ZEALAND Simcro Limited announced it has acquired ISL Animal Health (Hamilton, NZ) and NJ Phillips PTY (NSW, Australia). Financial terms were not disclosed. (company press release)
> NORWAY Pharmaq announced the formation of Pharmaq Analytiq, a diagnostics division for fish farmers. The company offers 30 plus available assays to meet customer demand for pathogen surveillance. (Animal Pharm)

ANIMAL HEALTH NEWS
> US – VESICULAR STOMATITIS This summer’s outbreak of vesicular stomatitis (VS) has affected 279 premises as of August 19, according to the USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS). Confirmed cases have occurred in seven states – Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, South Dakota, Texas, Utah and Wyoming. Colorado has seen the most cases so far this year; most confirmed cases have been on equine premises. (Vet Advantage)
> US – SWINE FACILITIES The Arkansas Pollution Control and Ecology Commission has approved a temporary 5-year ban on new medium and large hog farms in the Buffalo River Watershed. No farm can have more than 3,000 swine. The 5-year ban is a compromise among environmentalists, the Arkansas governor and state lawmakers. (Vet Advantage)

BRAKKE CONSULTING VIEWPOINT
The news is a little light this week because EVERYONE was in Kansas City. There were 1,010 people at the Homecoming Dinner on Monday night. That’s quite an increase from the 135 at the first Homecoming 10 years ago. The Corridor has undeniably achieved worldwide recognition as the center for animal health activity. The Investment Forum was also well attended, with 400 people learning about 17 companies that are in the early development stage. Congratulations to Kimberly Young and Emily McVey and the rest of their team.
I would be remiss not to take note of one or two items in the news that show how reaching the pet owner is changing. House calls by veterinarians have not been unknown, but it seems that at least one company believes they can make home visits part of a wellness program. Also, we have a product line going from Internet-only sales into retailers. The days of getting store distribution as a critical first step in product introduction may be fading.
