2013 INDUSTRY OVERVIEW

Brakke Consulting will present the 2013 US Animal Health Industry Overview twice this winter – once at the North American Veterinary Conference in Orlando, Florida and once at the Western Veterinary Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada. These dates are:
• NAVC: Monday, January 21, 2:00 – 4:00 pm, Gaylord Palms.
• WVC: Tuesday, February 19, 2:00 – 4:00 pm, Four Seasons.

COMPANY EARNINGS RELEASES
 
> Neogen Corporation announced results for the second quarter of fiscal year 2013 ended November 30. Net income for the second quarter increased 30% to $6.8 million. Revenues increased 13% to $51 million. Animal Safety revenues increased 8% to $25 million. (company press release)

COMPANY NEWS RELEASES
 
> Pfizer’s planned US initial public offering (IPO) of its animal-health unit Zoetis is likely by January or February and expected to raise about $4 billion, according to the Wall Street Journal. Industry analysts have valued the Pfizer animal-health business at $15 billion or more based upon its revenue of $4.2 billion in 2011. (Reuters)
 
> Sanofi announced that Merial has agreed to buy the animal health unit from Mumbai-based Dosch Pharmaceuticals Private Limited in a bid to enter the Indian market. The animal health division being acquired has more than 86 products under 50 brands for ruminants, poultry and pets. Financial terms were not disclosed. (Foxbusiness.com)
 
> VetSource announced an agreement with Banfield Pet Hospital to offer Banfield clients home delivery service for their pet’s medications. Vetsource’s online pharmacy will be available in February to all Banfield clients who sign up for a “MyBanfield” online account using their Banfield client account number. (company press release)

ANIMAL HEALTH NEWS
 
> WORLD – FEED SAFETY  The International Feed Industry Federation (IFIF) announced an official cooperation agreement with the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE). The agreement aims to facilitate and strengthen cooperation between the two organizations, in particular with the regards to the prevention and management of infectious diseases, including zoonotic disease, as well as the support for the development, updating and implementation of OIE standards and guidelines. The cooperation further aims to strengthen linkages between feed safety and food safety. (Feedstuffs)
