Foi um prazer para mim estar esta semana em Londres, junto com meus colegas da Brakke e muitos líderes globais da indústria de saúde animal, para a Conferência de Tecnologia e Inovação em Saúde e Nutrição Animal da Kisaco.
A qualidade e a quantidade das apresentações e conversas destacaram a força da indústria de saúde animal e suas muitas oportunidades de inovação futuras.
Uma apresentação particularmente interessante foi a conversa mediada por Kristin Peck, CEO da Zoetis, e pelo Dr. Timothy Shell, Diretor do Centro de Medicina Veterinária (CVM) da FDA. O Dr. Shell compartilhou sua visão para a reforma do processo de aprovação de saúde animal do CVM, observando que as interações com a FDA desempenharão um papel fundamental na definição de como as inovações futuras chegarão ao mercado.
Ele mencionou diversas mudanças propostas, alertando que estas não são orientações formais e provavelmente levarão de 3 a 5 anos para serem implementadas:
- Reduzir o tempo médio de aprovação de 10 anos para 5 anos.
- Triplicar as aprovações do MUMS de 2 para 6 por ano, com um programa de vouchers para revisão acelerada.
- Prorrogação da aprovação condicional de 5 para 7 anos para doenças crônicas e inclusão da seção CMC.
- Atualização do programa de taxas de usuário para permitir avaliações mais curtas com taxas aplicáveis.
- Regulamentações sobre resíduos e toxicologia em evolução
- Aproveitar os dados e as aprovações de agências estrangeiras, ao mesmo tempo que se resolvem as lacunas regulamentares dentro dos prazos estabelecidos.
- Utilizando IA para acelerar processos administrativos
Para concluir, o Dr. Shell afirmou que o CVM está em constante evolução e incentivou as empresas a nunca interromperem ou adiarem projetos sem antes consultar a agência. Essa colaboração apoiará a introdução oportuna de valiosos produtos de saúde animal para animais de estimação e de produção.

Last week we asked you to tell us what “too much” for your own pets’ annual wellness veterinary visit might be including any vaccines, wellness tests and preventatives. Of those that owned pets, 44% chose $501-$750, 34% were at $251-$500, 19% came in at $751-$1,000 and 3% were at $100-$250. Below is a chart using average cost data for a 45 lb. dog’s annual wellness veterinary visit, looks like 81% of us are already beyond our own personal “too much”.
For this week’s question, Chuck’s viewpoint mentioned a willingness by the FDA’s CVM to reform its review processes, including streamlining and accelerating its procedures.
