COMPANY EARNINGS RELEASES
> Innovotech Inc. announced its unaudited financial and operational results for the third quarter of 2011. Total revenues were $393,970 compared to $425,051 in the comparable quarter in 2010. This included contract research revenue of $327,614 and product sales of $66,356. (Marketwire)

> Elanco announced that the FDA has approved its Pulmotil (tilmicosin) as a VFD (veterinary feed directive) sustained in-feed therapy for groups of beef and non-lactating dairy cattle where active bovine resipiratory disease has been diagnosed in at least 10% of the animals in the group. According to the Feed Additive Compendium, this approval marks the first VFD drug available for use in cattle. (Feedstuffs)
> Bio Health Solutions announced the launch of RenAvast, a new supplement for cats with chronic renal failure. RenAvast contains Avastamine, a combination of naturally occurring amino acids and peptides. (company press release)
> FLAVORx announced the launch of its Digital Flavorist software, giving veterinarians and pharmacists complete veterinary compounding and flavoring instructions with just a few quick keystrokes. > BRAZIL Merck Animal Health announced it has obtained regulatory approval in Brazil to begin marketing AQUAVAC Strep Sa, an inactivated vaccine that aids in protection against Streptococcus agalactiae infections in tilapia and other susceptible fish species. (company press release)

ANIMAL HEALTH NEWS
> UK – DISEASE SURVEILLANCE The British Small Animal Veterinary Association and the University of Liverpool are setting up a network to monitor disease in the UK companion animal population. The establishment of the Small Animal Veterinary Surveillance Network (SAVSNET) follows the conclusion of a three-year pilot study, funded by government and industry, that brought together data on diseases that affect pets across the country. It will provide a single source of data on diseases of companion animals for veterinary scientists, veterinary surgeons, policy makers and members of the public. (Animal Pharm)

BRAKKE CONSULTING VIEWPOINT
One can tell by the lack of news this week that the holidays are upon us. Some of the most positive news that I read this week was from the USDA’s Economic Research Service (ERS), which projects that net farm income will rise 31% in 2011 from 2010 levels. The livestock receipts specifically are expected to increase more than 15% to $164 billion. Now that’s some good news on the income side! However there are some issues related to rising costs that impact net income. If the USDA’s projections are even close to correct, we can see why companies serving the livestock industry are having a positive year. If this continues for a couple of years while the balance of the consumer economy is under stress impacting pet owner purchases, we may find more companies renewing their efforts in the food animal side of the business.
Earlier in the newsletter we announced our annual industry overview presentation at the two major conferences early in 2012. All that has happened in 2011 and will be happening in 2012 should make for some lively observations. We hope to see many of you there.
