Findings suggest the MMP9 gene, and the protein it generates, are involved in causing tooth resorption and it is thought existing therapies targeting this protein may be effective in treating the condition. Currently no treatments exist other than extracting affected teeth.<em> (Vettimes.co.uk)<\/em><\/li>\n<li>UK &#8211; JOHNE&#8217;S TESTING Queen&#8217;s University Belfast has developed a new test for Johne&#8217;s disease (JD) in dairy cattle. The new test is faster and more\u00a0 sensitive in detecting <em>Mycobacterium avium ssp paratuberculosis<\/em> (MAP) \u2013 the causative agent of JD. The test detects live infectious agent, not just antibodies against MAP, and can be used with milk, feces or blood samples from livestock.<em> (IHS Markit Connect)<\/em><\/li>\n<li>US &#8211; COVID New research shows that livestock processing plants \u201cmay act as transmission vectors\u201d of the coronavirus into surrounding communities. The researchers estimated plants were associated with 6-8% of COVID-19 cases nationwide during the early months of the pandemic. The researchers estimated the total excess COVID-19 cases and deaths associated with proximity to livestock plants to be 236,000 to 310,000 (6% to 8% of all U.S. cases) and 4,300 to 5,200 (3% to 4% of all U.S. deaths), respectively, as of July 21, 2020, with the vast majority likely related to community spread outside these plants. I\u2019m amazed that so many people are expected to show up to work every day without question and yet every night on the television were told to stay home and keep the doors locked. I thought about the airline crews and what they go through every day to ensure a safe journey for themselves and their passengers. And lastly I couldn\u2019t help noticing that there may be now more TSA employees than there are passengers.<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s headline in Feedstuffs states that farmers \u201care a lot less optimistic\u201d post-election than the previous one. It\u2019s interesting in that by definition a farmer is a very optimistic person. Notice that throughout the year there is been more than enough food every time you went to the store.
