(PRNewswire)  Ralston Purina Company announced first quarter earnings before unusual items of $189.9 million, compared to $131.9 million in the prior year.  First quarter sales were $1.4 billion, compared to $1.3 billion in the prior year first quarter, an increase of 9%.
