The company blamed a protein glut for pushing down pork prices and prices of live hogs. Without the effect of the discontinuation of its Gorges\/Quik-to-Fix Foods operations, the net profit would have been $4.7 million. Sales also fell by 8%, to $2.68 billion from $2.9 billion a year ago. Those results contributed to a sharp 42% decline in profits for the year, ended April 30, to $172.7 million from $296.2 million in 2005.
